Albert Lee will be doing a presentation about early Chinese Canadian settlement in Halifax over the past 100 years. Albert’s grandfather arrived from China in 1903 and his father in 1916 as a 9-year-old boy, and the only Chinese boy in the city at the time. There will be many early photographs from family albums of early Chinese Canadians and untold stories featured in the presentation. This will be followed by questions and perhaps some answers…
Halifax photographer Albert Lee was a Research Associate at The Gorsebrook Institute for Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary’s University. He collected historical photos and interviews from the Chinese Canadian families in the Maritimes. Some of the materials have been digitized for future generations at the University of British Columbia and Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
Albert is currently working on a book, a visual journey of early Chinese Canadians in the Maritimes.
