Author/historian Joel Zemel explores the events of 6 December 1917 which occurred in the crucial nineteen and half minutes following the collision between SS Mont-Blanc and SS Imo in Halifax Harbour up until the huge explosion that devastated the Richmond District leaving unprecedented death and destruction in its wake.

The actions of those involved at the centre of the unfolding disaster are described in detailed chronological order, thereby giving greater overall context within the short timeline. From the response of the crews of the two key ships and others in the harbour to the men on the nearby shore, the many separate and seemingly disparate events ultimately converge at the crucial point that forever changed the face of Halifax.
