Tickets, Tracks & Tales with David Stone

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is pleased to welcome singer/songwriter David Stone, who will be performing songs from his new CD entitled Tickets, Tracks and Tunes.

David’s new CD features songs which are based on the land grant petitions of the first settlers to St. Peter’s on Cape Breton Island. The Ticket in the title refers to the Crown Lease issued to the settlers after their petitions were filed and many of the grant applications make mention of the applicant being “in need of a ticket”.

Other songs on the CD are from family stories of the early settlers such as Malcolm McDonald, the noted fiddler Donald Campbell and David’s own ancestor George Stone, who arrived in the area in July of 1800 from Trepassy, Newfoundland. There are humourous tales of bootlegging and moonshine and the nickname given to Soldier’s Cove after veterans of the War of 1812 were granted allotments there in 1817 and 1818.

David is indebted to many of the local residents who have so freely shared their family stories with him and given him inspiration such as Peggy Adams and Marion McReary.

David is a singer songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, born and raised in St Peter's, Cape Breton. His songs range from ships and the sea, maritime history to songs about his home. His albums include Songs of the Minas Ring, History, At Home, Homefires and Nobody’s Home.
