Chair of the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust, Bill Woodburn, will provide a brief history of the Royal Canadian Navy’s involvement in the Second World War including HMCS Sackville, the last Corvette. Sackville’s presence on the Halifax waterfront continues to preserve the history and tell the stories of the Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Captain (Navy) (retd) William ‘Bill’ Woodburn joined the Canadian Grenadier Guards, in Montreal, in 1974 and served with them for nine years. The majority of his naval career was spent serving in submarines HMCS Onondaga and HMCS Victoria. He was Chief of Staff to the Naval Staff, National Defence Headquarters before retiring in January 2015.
