As part of our continuing collaboration with Symphony Nova Scotia, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is pleased to be hosting the first fall session of Symphony 101.

Symphony 101 is hosted by well-known and always entertaining music lecturer Adrian Hoffman.  Adrian is a veteran of both Dalhousie University and CBC Radio. Each class will also feature Symphony Nova Scotia musicians, who will give up close and personal perspectives on their instruments and their roles as professional musicians.

Principal flute soloist Patricia Creighton will be our first musical guest of the new season.  This completes the woodwind section as we explore an instrument that dates back to antiquity. It is also the only orchestral instrument that does not require a physical vibrating object or human body part (lips or vocal cords) to generate a musical sound. It manipulates a stream of air only, much like blowing over the top of a pop bottle. Let's find out how that works.
