Over 60,000 Canadians lost their lives during the First World War. However, a little unknown fact is that the first Canadian casualties of the war were four young Midshipmen of the Royal Canadian Navy. Under the age of 21 and local boys, their stories are often forgotten when we learn about Canada during the Great War. “Far From Home, But Not Forgotten” explores the lives of these young men, their hopes and excitement for joining the newly established Royal Canadian Navy, and the impacts of their legacy today.

Presenter Jennifer Gamble is a graduate from Dalhousie University and Fleming College. Over the past decade she has had the privilege to work with many museums including the Community Museum Association of PEI and with HMCS Sackville. Jennifer became the Curator for the Naval Museum of Halifax in December 2018. Every day Jennifer learns something new at the museum. Getting to work with veterans and volunteers is one of the most rewarding parts of her job. She feels very lucky to be a part of preserving their memories and experiences.
