The Continuing Heritage of the Sea Music Tradition

The days of sail and sailors saw the creation of rousing work songs which built the foundations of sea music culture. Music and songs are still created, standing on the legacy of the generations who came before.

Explore the roots of our sea music traditions from the oldest sea chanties up through the newest of sea songs with the Dory Bungholes.

The Dory Bungholes have been entertaining Nova Scotians with their own take on sea chanties and sea music for almost 25 years. Academically knowledgeable and strongly rooted in the tradition, the "Bungs" nevertheless embrace change and have been called the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young of sea songs due to their exciting arrangements and stirring harmonies. You will be utterly beguiled. entertained and informed.

The Dory Bungholes are singer/songwriter/artist Vince Morash, born and raised in the shadow of the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse; Margo Carruthers, a vocalist and folklorist specializing in the Gaelic tradition; Jay Perry a musicologist who loves to bring unequaled harmonies and adds history to songs; and Jon Stone a proponent of Maritime history and heritage who enjoys bringing old and new songs to audiences far and wide.
