A Modern View of Titanic’s Historic Ports
by Sheryl Rinkol
7 pm
Sheryl will present photographs of RMS Titanic’s maiden voyage route, extending that journey on both ends to appeal to lovers of travel, history, and Titanic. Embarkation is in Liverpool, England, for the beginning of the White Star Line; following to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for her three-year construction; and then onward to her maiden voyage route: Southampton, England; Cherbourg, France; and Cobh (Queenstown), Ireland.
A short homage will be paid to RMS Titanic and all of her souls onboard at the surface of her final resting place in the Atlantic Ocean. The journey then continues to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where victims are buried in three cemeteries, and ends at what was Titanic’s original destination: New York, United States of America. See current pictures and learn both historical and modern aspects of each location. Sheryl’s book Titanic Today, featuring over 500 color photographs from over 40 different international trips, can be purchased during her Canadian book launch after her presentation.
Sheryl Rinkol has been fascinated by the Titanic since age 5, learning from her grandmother’s stories. With the wreck site discovery in 1985, Titanic became her favorite subject and she was inspired to passionately instill the same sense of wonder, research, and questioning later when she became an educator. After completing her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral coursework, she became a professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and designed and taught a semester-long, Titanic course in Fall 2012. Because of its great success, Sheryl earned four grants that allowed her to travel throughout the world researching Titanic at exhibitions, museums, and famous related sites.
She is an elected committee member on the board of The Belfast Titanic Society and a co-editor of their international journal, CQD. She also is a member of the Titanic International Society; the Titanic Historical Society; Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada; British Titanic Society, and German Titanic Society. She has done numerous interviews for radio and TV. She started Titanically Speaking, a lecture company, as a way of sharing her Titanic knowledge worldwide. She has a vast selection of over 50 different Titanic talks that are applicable for everyone from elementary, middle school, and high school students; to business professionals on weekend retreats; to week-long classes for seniors. Her extremely successful talks teach the history of the period, and present lessons learned from the tragedy that apply to all ages. She resides in Half Moon Bay, California, with her husband, Matt.
